About this work
Allegorical tomb monument for Prince William V, who died on 9 April 1806. The sorrowful Dutch Maiden leans against the monument on which is an image of the phoenix rising from its ashes and is comforted by a genius representing Piety. In front of the monument the sorrowful Dutch Lion resting on a broken sword and bundle of arrows. Two small children hold up the prince's coat of arms. A printed explanation accompanies the print.
