View from the Nieuwsteegbrug of the devastated area after the gunpowder explosion on the Steenschuur, a canal extending from the Rapenburg, in Leiden, on 12 January 1807. Cleanup operations after the disaster, the Saaihal centrally, the Pieterskerk to the left in the distance. In the foreground, the body of a victim is being carried away.
