New Year's greeting on behalf of the male newspaper carriers of Amsterdam for the year 1856. At the top three vignettes taken from books, with in the center a celebration at a family on New Year's Day, on the left the house of Goethe at Weimar, on the right the house of Schiller at Weimar. At the bottom a poem in three columns. From the newspaper carrier: widow Martijns.
