About this work

Satirical print in which King William I opens the session of the States-General in The Hague on 18 October 1830 with the throne speech. The king depicted as a lion sitting on a throne of stacked round cheeses and raising his hands to heaven. The ministers standing next to the throne also as animals, the members of parliament as donkeys.
