About this work
The Prince of Orange loses his horse during the fighting at Boutersem, preceding or part of the battle of Leuven on 12 August 1831. The prince standing on the ground next to his horse and between his terrified staff officers. To the right advancing Dutch infantry and lancers. On the ground lies a wounded cuirassier with his horse, possibly this is Colonel Nicolaas Cornelis de Gallières. To the right in the foreground Belgian prisoners of war. To the left a cannon is being loaded.
