About this work

Allegorical monument for Jan van Speyk. A weeping woman seated on the sarcophagus with a pillar bearing a portrait of Van Speyk. On the sarcophagus an open book, scales, hourglass and palm branch. With a description of the funeral procession through Amsterdam and the funeral ceremony in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam on 4 May 1832. At the bottom a verse of nine couplets in three columns.
