About this work

British victory in the naval battle at Camperduin on 11 October 1797 between the Batavian fleet under the command of Vice-Admiral Jan Willem de Winter and a British fleet under Admiral Adam Duncan. On the left the British ship the Venerable, to the right of it the Dutch ship de Vrijheid without masts. In the foreground drowning men cling to wreckage. The print also includes a key.
