About this work

Hein Kemper (Johann Heinrich Kämper), accused of murder, is led by police from the prison to the court of justice over the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam during his trial, 20 July 1854. The prisoner is escorted by a contingent of infantry or militia and dragoons on horseback through the crowd. The triple murderer Kemper was the last person on whom the death penalty was carried out.
