About this work

Satirical print on the abolition of municipal excise duties, whereby 4/5 of the state tax on personnel was ceded to the municipality. A pelican (the Dutch state) feeds her young. Plate published in the weekly De Nederlandsche Spectator, no. 21, 27 May 1865.
