The Struggle for the Inheritance of the Three Sons of the King

A young man kneels before a rider. Next to him stands a man holding a crown. On the other side of the rider stand two other young men with bows in their hands. One of them points to the dead body of an old man, bound to a tree stump, the heart pierced with two arrows. This representation refers to the story of the three sons of kings who were given the order by Solomon to shoot arrows into the heart of their dead father, to determine who would succeed him. The two eldest both hit the mark, the youngest refused to mutilate his father's body and thereby earned the crown.
