About this work
Bust of Philip of Marnix, Lord of Saint-Aldegonde (Brussels, between 7 March and 20 July 1540 – Leiden, 15 December 1598) at the age of 59, dressed in a fur cloak and a pleated collar, in an oval with a Latin border inscription. To the left of the oval is his coat of arms; to the right an emblematic scene with the motto REPOS AILLEURS. Philip of Marnix was a Southern Netherlandish writer, politician, scholar and assistant of William of Orange.
