About this work
The sitter is the Hoorn poet Roelof Westerop (born Hoorn 16.. – 1762). For a variant on this portrait, see our image bank 010097007792 and the print in Westerops Hoorns Buiten Singel in rym beschreven (1728), of which the drawing is the basis for the Provincial Atlas NH (see Pronk met Pen en Penseel (1997), p. 137, fig. 35).
