About this work

The mutilation of the corpses of the De Witt brothers in The Hague on 20 August 1672. Around the scaffold citizens and soldiers have gathered. In the foreground a man runs away with pieces of clothing of the victims. On the scaffold two men hold parts of the bodies up.
