About this work
The distribution of bread and herring to the starving Leideners at the Relief of Leiden, October 3, 1574. Women and children eat and fight for the bread, on the right a woman folds her hands in gratitude. Left on the ground a horse's head. Below the image a four-line poem in Dutch. With a handwritten note describing the painting.
