About this work

Design drawing for a political caricature, ca. 1926-1927. The Dutch Maiden with drawn sword seizes a rebel by the shoulder. In the background, fights in a village between Dutch military and communist rebels. This likely concerns the uprisings in West Java (Bantam) in 1926 and 1927 by the PKI (Partai Komunis Indonesia) against the Dutch government. With several inscriptions in pencil and a pasted newspaper clipping.
