About this work
In the foreground three followers of Juno, one of whom is gathering leaves in a basket. In the distance, in the background, Myrrha, the nymph who has been turned into a tree, gives birth to Adonis, assisted by Juno Lucina. A fountain nymph receives Adonis, the other nymphs look on. (Ovid, Metamorphoses X, 503-514).
