About this work
In addition to preparatory drawings for paintings, a group of sketchily executed drawings in black chalk and grey ink has also been preserved. Perhaps these were literally the ‘initial ideas’ for paintings scribbled down in a spare moment. Only in a few cases did such a sketch result in an actual painting.
