About this work
In this psychologically very complex drawing, the body language of King David speaks volumes. He is tormented by guilt and would rather walk away so he does not have to hear what news the messenger is bringing him: Uriah has fallen at the front. David had personally arranged this so he could marry Uriah's wife Bathsheba. To the right stands the prophet Nathan ready to reprimand David.
