About this work

Beautiful Aal or 'The Choice Between Young and Old'. A young woman turns away from a rich old man and a young man and chooses a boy who mockingly points at his competitors. The old man wears a fur cap and sits at a table counting coins. He holds an open money bag. The four main characters from the play 'Het spel van de Moor' by G.A. Bredero are likely represented (from left to right): Kackerlack, Mooi Aal, Ritsert, and Roemert. Sheet 32 from a sketchbook with 91 sheets.
