About this work
Hugo de Groot steps, helped by his wife Maria van Reigersberch, into the book chest. To their left, probably their maid Elsje van Houwelingen. Van Reigersberch devised the plan for the escape with the book chest, and Van Houwelingen played a major role in its execution.
