About this work
Watteau here used red and black chalk to depict an outstretched left arm holding a guitar. He emphasized the curvature of the hand and the folds of fabric over the shoulder. Along with the prints exhibited on either side, this study demonstrates the artist’s interest in creating graceful poses with musical instruments.
