About this work

In the garden behind a church or monastery in Dodewaard, an apple tree blooms in March, 1444. Possibly related to the House Appelenburg, a former noble house located west of Dodewaard. Part of the portfolio with 18 drawings reproduced in Johan Huizinga's 'Selection of memorable scenes from national histories' from 1950.
