About this work

An old hermit sits on a tiger skin in front of a rock cave that serves as his dwelling. He holds a rosary in his right hand. A student fans him with a peacock feather fan. Two courtiers have knelt before the hermit. One plucks a stringed instrument, the other claps his hands. The brightly blue and purple painted, knotty rocks stand out sharply against the golden background, which transitions upwards into blue and gold streaks.
