About this work
On a veranda a woman sits staring sadly in front of her. Her friend, who sits in front of her, tries to comfort her. A woman like this, who has been abandoned by her lover, is a well-known theme from the nayikabheda literature, in which men and women are described and classified according to their behavior and experience in love. The scene is pasted on a sheet with a narrow decorative border of gold on yellowed paper, edged with black frame lines; top left a piece pasted on.
