About this work

In a covered space of a palace, Krishna sits on a cushion; to his left, a young woman crouches with both hands stretched forward, palms together; behind her against the wall, a burning oil lamp; to the left of the palace wall, three women, the foremost dancing, the middle one playing a drum, and the rear one holding a small bowl; above the palace wall, a night starry sky with a crescent moon. Around the scene, two borders in frame lines, one yellow and the outer, wider one red; the palace dome and the third woman on the left are partially painted over these borders.
