About this work
Under a baldachin of heraldic banners, the king sits leaning against a cushion on a carpet, extending his right hand invitingly to his visitor; to his left, a musician kneels, holding his left hand up in a blessing gesture; the visitor stands before the raised platform carrying a baby wrapped in a cloth; in the doorway, a servant with a sword in his belt looks on with bowed head; behind the king, a servant with a peacock feather. Around the scene, a red border and a black frame line, sometimes remounted to reinforce weak areas.
