About this work

This recently discovered drawing by Crispijn van den Broeck is a design for an engraving of The Holy Kinship. The artist had the scene engraved by his daughter Barbara van den Broeck. Crispijn gave clear directions to the printmaker by means of sharp pen strokes and accents in white opaque paint. This design offered her guidance in engraving the composition in the copper plate.
