About this work

Deer-like, possibly a forest antelope. The French name Saïga suggests a type of antelope (Saiga antelope) which, however, does not resemble the animal shown. Numbered in the upper right: 6. With a five-line caption in Latin. Part of the second album of drawings of quadrupeds. Second of twelve albums of drawings of animals, birds and plants known around 1600, made on commission of Emperor Rudolf II. With explanations in Dutch, Latin and French.
