Black grouse, possibly a capercaillie or a black grouse. Numbered top right: 8. Latin name at the top. Part of the first album of bird drawings. Third of twelve albums of drawings of animals, birds and plants known around 1600, made on commission of Emperor Rudolf II. With commentary in Dutch, Latin and French.
