Night quarters at Molodetschno (Maladzetsjna), 3-4 December 1812: episode from the retreat of Emperor Napoleon from Russia. A night shelter as used by the two first lieutenants W.P. d'Auzon de Boisminart and his brother-in-law A. de Groot Stiffry. Soldiers shelter under a provisional reed shelter by a campfire, to the right the horses. By the fire a man kneels with a pig's head in his hands. To the left French soldiers walk in long rows through the snow.
