About this work
In 1644, the Dutch painter Allaert van Everdingen traveled to Sweden. The Scandinavian landscape must have made a great impression on him, for he would continue to paint it for the rest of his life. This canvas, which he produced back in the Netherlands, Van Everdingen sold to the Amsterdam merchant Hendrick Trip, whose family owned many possessions in Sweden.
