About this work

The bombardment of Algiers on 26-27 August 1816, with ships carrying out a bombardment at night. The bombardment of Algiers by the combined Anglo-Dutch fleet, under the command of Lord Exmouth and Baron van der Capelle, was intended to support the ultimatum for the release of European enslaved men in North Africa. Such enslaved people were known as 'Christian slaves'.
