About this work
Market square with scenes from the Passion of Christ in the background: the Scourging, Ecce Homo, and the Carrying of the Cross. In the foreground, market vendors offer their wares: vegetables, fish, fruit, bread, poultry, and cheese. To the right, near a well, other sellers at their stalls. Previously considered autograph. Better versions in Moscow and Baton Rouge.
