About this work

King Saul greets David as the victor over Goliath. Outside a city gate, Saul with his retinue and a large crowd welcomes David, who kneels before him. Behind David, several soldiers with banners and the sword and helmet of Goliath. On the left in the foreground lies the severed head of the defeated Philistine.
