About this work

These Italian peasants have risen early to milk the cattle. A soft yellow mist still hangs in the valley. Du Jardin underscored their simple life by portraying the woman with bare feet. Clad in vibrant blue and red clothes, the two figures stand out brightly against the yellow-brown mountain landscape.
