About this work
Triptych with an allegory on art education. On the central panel a nursery; a woman is breastfeeding a child. She is seated at a table, the cradle and a basket in front of her on the floor. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling, on the wall the mounted head of a deer. In the background a dentist. The nursery symbolizes nature. The left wing shows an evening school where writing is taught by the light of candles and a lantern. The school symbolizes education. On the right wing a scholar in his study cuts a quill by the light of a candle. The quill cutter symbolizes practice. (for the central panel and right wing see SK-A-2320-A/C)
