About this work
A group of travelers rests at a stopping place. Without dismounting, the riders drink and their horses are also cared for. The low viewpoint chosen by the painter gives the painting a monumental impression. The diagonal line in the composition also has a strong effect: the stream leads the viewer's eye from the buildings in the foreground to the church in the distance.
