The Battle of Ramillies between the French and the Allied Powers, 23 May 1706

1706 - May 3, first day of Pentecost. Battle of Ramillies. Between Brussels and Liège at Ramillies, the Anglo-Dutch troops defeated the French and the Bavarians. The battle began at one o'clock in the afternoon; by half past three the decision was made. The French and their allies fled in panic. They lost 10,000 men dead and wounded, while 7,000 were taken prisoner. The allies counted only 4,400 dead and wounded. At the far right stands the commander-in-chief John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, with his staff.
