About this work
The prophet Elijah at dawn in the desert, awakened by an angel. The prophet looks up in astonishment at the angel who points backward with his left hand. Made in 1624-25 as part of a series of eight paintings for the chapel of the sacraments in the church of San Paolo fuori le mura in Rome.
