About this work
Mary of Hungary, 1505-1558, Governor of the Netherlands, 1531-1555. Probably a copy after a lost portrait by Titian. Circa 1550.<BR />This younger sister of Charles V succeeded Margaret of Austria as Governor in 1531. When Charles V abdicated in 1555, Mary also retired. Mary of Hungary possessed an important collection of paintings. She knew Titian, who made portraits of her and her family members.
