About this work
Allegory on the farewell of William III from Amalia of Solms after the transfer of the regency to the States-General. Allegory on the Prince of Orange, the later William III, as future stadtholder. Far left the empty stadtholder's chair, to the right of that Amalia of Solms. To the right the prince, helped by Minerva, ascends the steps of a temple, whose gate is framed with the coats of arms of the Seven United Provinces and the signs of the zodiac.
