About this work

Portrait of Coenraad van Hulst (1774-1844), actor, as president of the art-promoting society VW in Amsterdam (named after the founders Casper Vreedenberg and Jan van Well). Seated half-length in a chair, wearing the presidential chain around his neck, to which is attached the large gold medal with a radiant crown and next to it many other decorations. In his left hand, a roll of paper.
