About this work
Ruisdael moved from Haarlem to Amsterdam around 1656. There he expanded his repertoire of subjects with motifs such as waterfalls, rocks and half-timbered houses. He derived them from the work of Allaert van Everdingen, who had been in Sweden and Norway.
