About this work
The Utrechtman Jan Davidsz de Heem moved to Antwerp in 1636. There he specialized, under the influence of the Flemish masters, in painting sumptuous still lifes and festoons. Although the attention to detail recalls his Utrecht teacher Balthasar van der Ast, the grace and richness of color are more Flemish.
