About this work

Seated at the table are the regentesses Trijntje ten Bergh, Anna Willekens, and Trijntje Felincx. Between them stands Marritje Roelofs, the ‘house mother’ responsible for the daily running of the asylum, including providing the meals. On the table lie a register, (small bags of) coins, and a counting board, all referring to the regentesses’ administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and financial management.
