Axinella rosacea

Type status: syntype?. Collection locality: Nassau, Bahamas. CSBR Slide Grant Image 2016; IZ number 79610; lot count 1; Microslide 01, balsam, sclerites; other number 559; other number 161; type status comment: On the original slide label, Verrill writes "Axinella (Pandaros) sp. nov." He descirbes Axinella rosacea from Florida and Bahamas in a footnote on p. 341 saying it is a similar species to Axinella rudis (described from Bermuda and Florida Reefs) which belongs to the group Pandaros. Due to a lack of previously discovered Verrill sponge type material and the confusing synonymy of this species (See Wiedenmayer, 1977 p. 159) this lot is questionably attributed as a syntype of Axinella rosacea and should be re-evaluated by a porifera worker.
