Type status: holotype. Collection locality: Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Collected by Owston, A., 1913. CSBR Slide Grant Image 2016; IZ number 80407; lot count 1; Microslide 01, cardboard, ossicles; Microslide 02, cardboard, ossicles; Microslide 03, cardboard, ossicles; original catalog number MCZ 1183; type status comment: On the slide, Verrill writes the locality as Alaska. This appears to be an error as it is quite clearly labeled MCZ 1183. He also gives a preliminary determination of Allasterias rathbuni, which he refers to as an allied species in his description of A. forficulosa.
