About this work
As in the case of "Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the Well" (Inv. 1131), several painted versions of this theme by Bonifacio Veronese or from his circle are known (here especially: Simonetta Simonetti, Profilo di Bonifacio de' Pitati, in: Saggi e memorie di storia dell'arte 15, 1986, pp. 83–134). In contrast to the Basel picture, however, these are mostly large-scale, full-length representations.
