About this work
Copy after Lorenzo Lotto's painting "Christus and the Adulteress" in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (Inv. 353). Dated to the late 1520s, the painting was likely already in France by 1581, as it was engraved by Marc Duval, who died that year. It may have been in the collection of Philippe de Mornay, for whom Duval worked preferentially. This copy was thus possibly created in Paris. A second version of the painting is located in the Palazzo Apostolico in Loreto.
