About this work

The large-scale painting is an idealizing pastiche of old Italian architecture from different regions, specifically recognizable as the upper town in the facade of S. Rufino in Assisi and the Palazzo dei Principi in Urbino; in the lower town, the Fontana Maggiore by Giovanni and Nicola Pisani and, to the left, the town hall of Perugia are cited.
